Neyara Weerawansa
About

Neyara Weerawansa brings an outstanding international playing background, extensive competitive experience and a bold, energetic coaching style to Futures Tennis Academy.

From a young age, Neyara established herself as one of Sri Lanka’s leading players. She was ranked No. 1 nationally throughout the junior age groups from Under-10 through to Under-18 and later achieved the No. 1 ranking in Women’s Open tennis in Sri Lanka. At international junior level, she reached a career-high ranking of No. 3 on the Asian Tennis Federation circuit.

Throughout her playing career, Neyara competed extensively in international junior and women’s tournaments and proudly represented Sri Lanka on some of the sport’s biggest international team stages. She represented her country at the World Junior Championships and Junior Federation Cup before progressing to senior international representation in the Billie Jean King Cup.

As part of her development as a player, Neyara also lived and trained in Spain, gaining valuable experience within the European tennis system under former Spanish professional and Davis Cup representative Joan Balcells. Training in a high-performance international environment exposed her to different styles of play, coaching philosophies and the standards required to compete at an elite level.

Since relocating to Australia, Neyara has continued to compete at the highest level of Victorian club tennis. She currently competes in Tennis Victoria State Grade Pennant as both team captain and No. 1 player, bringing current high-level match experience directly into her coaching.

Neyara has also enjoyed continued success in individual competition and is the defending Royal South Yarra Club Champion in both singles and mixed doubles.

She brings first-hand knowledge of tournament preparation, competitive pressure, match strategy and the commitment required to progress through a performance pathway.

Alongside her tennis achievements, Neyara holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Her academic background complements her playing and coaching experience, particularly in the areas of communication, motivation, confidence and understanding the mental side of competitive sport.

Known for her bold personality, enthusiasm and ability to engage with people, Neyara brings a strong presence to every session. She enjoys challenging players while creating an energetic and positive training environment and works confidently with players across a broad range of ages and standards.
