Tennis Australia Trainee Qualified Coach

Matthew Rydell brings more than 12 years of playing experience and a strong high-performance background to his coaching at Futures Tennis Academy.
Matthew was identified as a talented player from an early age, competing in Tennis Australia’s Super 10s program from the age of seven and participating for three years. His selection into the program provided him with early exposure to performance training and competition against some of the strongest junior players in his age group.
A Kooyong Foundation player, Matthew has continued to develop his game within strong training environments. He has competed internationally in Europe, including ITF Futures tournaments, gaining valuable experience against players from a range of different tennis backgrounds and playing styles.
Matthew has also had the opportunity to train alongside Cruz Hewitt under the guidance of former World No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion Lleyton Hewitt, providing further exposure to the standards and expectations of high-performance tennis.
A significant part of Matthew’s own development came under the guidance of Futures Tennis Academy Performance Coach Duncan Sillato, who coached Matthew for an extended period throughout his junior playing career. This long-standing connection gives Matthew a strong understanding of the Futures approach to player development and the performance pathway from both a player’s and coach’s perspective.
Matthew remains an active competitive player and currently represents Kooyong in Grade 3 Pennant, allowing him to bring current match experience and a strong competitive perspective to his coaching.
Away from tennis, Matthew is currently completing a Bachelor of Physiotherapy. His studies complement his coaching experience and provide him with a developing understanding of human movement, physical performance and the demands placed on athletes.
Known for his friendly and approachable personality, Matthew connects naturally with players of all ages and is a well-liked member of the Futures coaching team. He combines his high-level playing experience with a positive coaching style that helps players enjoy their tennis while continuing to improve.
