Tennis Australia Development Qualified Coach

Originally from Perth, Isabella Rumsley brings a strong playing background, an early passion for coaching and a growing understanding of sports science and athlete development to Futures Tennis Academy.
Isabella first picked up a racquet at just three years of age and grew up immersed in the sport. As her game developed, she competed at a strong junior level and later played State League tennis while attending Applecross Senior High School, where she was part of the school’s specialist tennis environment.
Her experiences as a player exposed Isabella to structured training, competition and the demands of developing within a performance-focused tennis program from a young age.
Isabella began coaching at just 14 years old and quickly discovered that coaching was where her passion for the game truly developed. She enjoyed being able to pass on what she had learned as a player, build relationships with younger athletes and help others experience the same enjoyment she had found through tennis.
By the age of 16, Isabella had begun her Level 1 Development coaching course, demonstrating an early commitment to developing her skills and knowledge as a coach.
Her own competitive playing pathway was eventually impacted by injury, leading Isabella to increasingly focus her attention on coaching. Rather than moving away from tennis, the experience strengthened her desire to remain involved in the sport and build a career helping other players develop.
Isabella gained valuable experience coaching under Diane Balestrain, further developing her understanding of player development, session delivery and the standards required within a quality coaching environment.
Her passion for coaching ultimately led her to relocate from Perth to Melbourne to pursue further opportunities within the tennis industry, continuing to build her experience across junior development and performance programs.
Isabella is currently studying Exercise and Sport Science, an area that strongly complements her coaching. Her studies are expanding her understanding of human movement, physical development, training principles and athletic performance, allowing her to increasingly connect the physical and technical components of player development.
She has also completed the Learn to Lead Program, further developing her leadership, communication and ability to positively influence young players both on and off the court.
More recently, Isabella travelled to the United States for a 12-day professional development experience with Tennis Australia, spending time at the John McEnroe Tennis Academy in New York and the USTA National Tennis Center. The experience provided valuable exposure to international coaching environments, player development systems and different approaches to delivering high-performance tennis.
Isabella brings an enthusiastic, energetic and thoughtful approach to coaching. Having experienced the game as a junior player, competitive athlete and now developing coach, she understands the importance of creating an environment where players feel supported while still being challenged to improve.
Her combination of practical coaching experience, sports science education and continued professional development makes Isabella an exciting young coach within the Futures Tennis Academy team.
