Junior Competition

Futures encourages all pupils to play in our Friday Night World Tours Internal Comp or External Comp for the Club, combined with their coaching, as both coaching and competition extend and justify the other.

Futures World Tour [each grade is named after a tour on the ATP circuit] was created as a feed-in comp so that as pupils improve they may play in the more committed external comps offered by East Malvern Tennis Club on the week-ends.

All Internal Comps are designed to compliment all Junior Coaching Programs. For example all Hot Shot Red, Orange and Green ball coaching pupils should play in the Red, Orange or Green Ball Hot Shots Tour from 4-5.30pm. Futures and Challenger coaching pupils should play in the Futures and Challenger Tour from 5.30-7pm and Pro and Grand Slam coaching pupils should play in the Pro and Grand Slam Tour from 7-8.30pm. Internal comp is played exclusively at East Malvern Tennis Club, in other words, there are no home and away matches. Friday Comp has four sections and twelve grades and runs an eight week season. Times of each comp are as below.

[Please note: Junior members of East Malvern Tennis Club and pupils of Futures Tennis Academy take priority for bookings over non-members.]

Friday Night Internal Comp - East Malvern Tennis Club

In the event of rain we will text you a message postponing comp.

Mini court tennis is revolutionising the world of tennis and is played all over Europe, USA and South America as seen above in the video. The key is the difference in the low compression of the ball which allows for a slower flight path and a lower bounce making it easier for little kids to start and continue a rally. Red balls are only 25% the compression of a Championship ball, Orange balls are 50%, and Green are 75%. If you want to reach your potential it is important to start comp as soon as possible to understand that tennis is more than just sound technique. It is also strategy, decision making and fitness! Do you think you could beat these six year olds?

Hot Shots Tour RED Ball Competition [RED 4-4.45pm 4.45-5.30pm]
Hot Shots RED Ball is played on the Mini Court with the same modified equipment as our Hot Shots classes and emphasizes fun and the fundamentals of singles match play. The key is the 25% low compression ball which we use that allows for a slower flight path and a lower bounce making it easier for little kids to start a rally. We also have a party night at the end of the season for all competitors. David Jonkers who is a Qualified Tennis Australia coach supervises and co-ordinate all matches. Rules are modified and the scoring system is simplified. We offer A and B grade based on experience. The comp emphasizes participation and is the first step towards becoming an independent player. All players who can start a rally should be playing this Comp.

Hot Shots ORANGE [50% Low compression ball] /GREEN [75% Low compression ball] is a doubles comp and is ideal for Junior Class pupils. This comp has four sections. All pupils play with a different partner every week making the comp very social. This comp is ideal as a starter comp as we modify the rules for the lower grades allowing all participants to have a great hit. Emphasis is on learning match play fundamentals. David and Ian, both Tennis Australia Coaches, supervises the comp. As with all our comps there are trophies for the winner and runner –up and a party night at the end of the eight week season.

External Club Comps & Junior Club Championships

East Malvern Tennis Club offers an external club competitions where players represent EMTC against other clubs in the region on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Players must be a member of the club to be able to participate. Matches are conducted at EMTC once a week and then at an away venue the following week. There is a summer and winter season which run for approximately five months. Players must be of an ability to serve and play a match independently as matches are umpired by the players. You may choose to either play on a Saturday or a Sunday morning and must be committed to the competition as you will be representing a team. External comp is fantastic for those pupils wanting to take their tennis to a more serious level. There is A to D grade and pupils must be below the age of eighteen years.

We encourage all players from the Friday Night Internal Competition to also play in East Malvern Tennis Clubs external comp as soon as you are up to the standard. Junior members of EMTC may also choose to play in the Annual Junior Club Championships. For more information please call the Club President, Tony lane, on 9885 3679.
